Have you been appointed as an executor of an estate?

You may not realise that you have until a family member or close friend passes away and either their will appoints you as an executor or you are the person that can apply for probate under the rules of intestacy.

Being aware of the potential pitfalls and practical aspects of dealing with an estate is just as important as completion of the probate application and inheritance tax forms, if applicable.

Being an executor of an estate can be stressful, especially if you have just lost a loved one. I would always recommend you make the person aware that they have been named as an executor in case they are unwilling to accept the position or to enable them to understand what responsibilities this entails.
