With not much time for lunch today, but in need of some fuel for brain power, Partner Jenna and I nipped out from our office on Devizes Road and took a quick stroll around the corner into Wood Street, ‘the heart’ of Old Town with its bars, bistros and local businesses flanking both sides of the road we decided to pop into the elegant eatery Food Magpie.
I did a double take before stepping inside the café as its frontage displays the name of a pharmacy that used the building some 150 years ago. The owners of Food Magpie discovered this sign upon renovation of the building and decided to keep it, which just adds to the charming vibe of this place and inside the décor gives off a French bistro style. Having a late lunch was good timing for us as we were lucky enough to find an empty table.
After a quick glance at the menu, I opted for soup of the day which was pea, parsley & lemon served with garlic sourdough and Jenna chose scrambled egg with smoked salmon sourdough from the many delicious options on the organic food menu including options for vegans and vegetarians. Their friendly staff served us quickly and not only were we impressed with our tasty, generously portioned, lunch but also the quick turnaround. This venue appears to be a regulars’ hot spot and we could certainly see why, to top it off we were back at the office in under an hour, noses back to the grindstone!
